DevExpress WPF: Typed Styles

DevExpress.Wpf.TypedStyles removes boilerplate code from WPF styling. You no longer need to declare a Style, set TargetType, and add a Setter for every property. Instead, declare a strongly typed style and assign properties directly. You get compile-time checking and full IntelliSense in the XAML editor. Typos become build errors instead of styles that silently fail to apply.

This package provides typed styles for DevExpress WPF controls and for standard WPF controls in PresentationCore, PresentationFramework, and WindowsBase.

Key Features

  • Strongly Typed Styles: For a Button control, use ButtonStyle; for GridControl, use GridControlStyle. The naming rule is {ControlName}Style.
  • IntelliSense and Compile-Time Validation: Property names are real CLR properties, so mistakes surface at build time rather than at runtime.
  • No xmlns eeded for Standard Controls: Typed styles for WPF controls map to the default presentation namespace, so ButtonStyle and TextBoxStyle are available out of the box.
  • Style Inheritance Mirrors the Control Hierarchy: Every generated style derives from its control's base style, so ButtonStyle inherits from ButtonBaseStyle.
  • BasedOn Works as Usual: Derive one typed style from another, including across target types: a ButtonStyle can be based on a FrameworkElementStyle that carries shared sizing.
  • Regular Setters When You Need Them: Populate the Setters collection to mix classic and typed syntax in one style.
  • Typed Triggers: ButtonTrigger and its siblings expose trigger conditions as typed properties and can restyle elements inside the control template.
  • Bindings on Any Property: Each typed property has a matching {PropertyName}_Source property that accepts a Binding or another markup extension.

Example 1: Style a Standard WPF Button Without Setters

The button renders with bold text, the specified padding, and a minimum width. The compiler validates property names.

Example 2: Restyle a Button When the Pointer Hovers Over It

The button caption becomes larger and bold while the pointer is over the button. A typed trigger targets the elements inside the control template, so TextBlockStyle applies to the text block that renders the caption.
